About me

Hello! I’m Daina 👋

I still remember my very first day working as a carer in the UK, back in 2011. I had just arrived from Latvia, my English was shaky, and honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d made the right decision leaving behind a decade-long career in Human Resources.

Fast forward to today, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

What began as a career change has grown into something much more profound: a calling that’s shaped not just my work, but who I am and how I see the world.

My Journey So Far

The shift from office life to hands-on care work wasn’t exactly smooth. I’ll be honest, there were plenty of days when I questioned everything.

But somewhere between mastering safe moving and handling techniques and having my first real heart-to-heart with someone I was supporting, something clicked.

I threw myself into learning everything I could. First Level 2 in Adult Social Care. Then Level 3, and somewhere along the way, I even completed a Paralegal diploma. Apparently, I like to keep busy!

But here’s what I’ve truly learned:
No qualification can teach you the most essential part of this job—how to genuinely connect with another human being.

Why I Started Writing
I can rarely sit still, even when I’m exhausted. Too often, I have no real outlet for the ongoing frustrations of the job. I’m always on the lookout for new ways to hold on to myself, stay engaged, and keep learning something new.

Here, you’ll find honest conversations about the challenges we face every day, along with practical tips I’ve discovered that might help you too.

Got a topic you’d love me to cover? Drop me a message—I’d love to hear from you.
